Thomas Somers, Senior Associate
Thomas Somers was groomed to be a lawyer. His family has a long history of working in the judicial system, including a 19th century Milwaukee congressman, a federal court judge in Nevada and notably, his grandfather who worked as a federal prosecutor in Downtown Los Angeles in the 1920s. Thomas owned an applicant’s attorney firm for 25 years before shifting his career to the defense side. Prior to his role in law, Thomas owned a TV and appliance rent-to-own business and ran a retail organization. Using these previous experiences, Thomas listens to clients and opposing counsel in order to solve the problems at hand, working to settle claims. He uses his vast experience when receiving a new case, seeing how the players are providing better service for clients based on the relationships he has built.
Born and raised in Southern California, Thomas is a 3rd generation Californian. He is inspired by the state’s mountains, and as a young man backpacked and climbed a number of them including the John Muir Trail and reaching the summit of Mount Whitney three times via the Mountaineer’s Route and climbing the East Face. He is also very passionate about golf and is a member of the La Cañada Country Club, serving on the Men’s Golf Association Board of Directors. He is also active in the alumni arm of the Orthogonian Society at Whittier College and is a member of the Vikings’ charitable organization providing food and benefits to children in need. Law isn’t the only thing that is passed down in the Somers family either. His nephew Tommy Caldwell is a renowned climber, traveling around the globe to take on the next cliff face.
